Being a vegan

Veganism is the practice of abstaining from use of animal products, especially in diet and an associated philosophy of completely avoiding animal products. A vegan is therefore a follower of the diet or the philosophy. Dietary vegan refrains from consuming meat, eggs, dairy products and other animal- derived substances. Ethical vegans not only follow vegan diet but also opposes the use of animal products for any purpose. Environmental veganism- Avoidance of animal products on the basis that farming of animals is environmentally unsustainable.
It is imporntant to note that dietary veganism can lead to ethical veganism. There are vegans who totally avoid everything related to animals including meat, honey, milk, eggs, and even their corresponding processed forms.
Some even go to an extent of avoiding clothing made of animal fur, leather or feathers.

Reasons for being a vegan
1. Some are opposed to killing of animals for meat- The brutal murder of animals in slaughterhouses is not a narrative that's welcomed by vegans. Animals feel pain as we do so there is no way you gonna sit them down and draw a blueprint that slaughtering animals is a normal business.

2. Livestock keeping causes immense suffering to animals-
Naturally, hens are wired to lay a small number of eggs that are health friendly to them. But not when someone alters its genes to produce 45 eggs when they should be producing 12. Cows are also supposed to produce just enough milk to satisfy their young ones. But not when one manipulates its system to overproduce milk and deny calves their right.

3. Science confirms there is no need for dietary animal products- It's not a must for you to eat animal products like meat for you to survive. Infact, vegan diet is better than it and doesn't predespose you to infections that dairy products does.

4. Human-wildlife war - Livestock keeping attracts wild animals like lions, cheetahs, leopards etc. This makes man to hunt them back and the result is death mostly on the wild side. But here is a bone to chew, is it the animal that invaded you or it's you who invaded it's territory?

5. Livestock keeping contributes to world's hunger- First, livestock compete for H₂O with man during droughts hence leading to shortage in water for irrigation and domestic use. Secondly, man spends much time herding cattle at the expense of doing much profitable activities that will reduce poverty. Bear in mind that some communities does not sell them at all hence zero monetary profit.

6. Impact on the environment- Livestock keeping leads to destruction in ground cover(grass) and land degradation. It also increases concentration of greenhouse gases like CO₂.
